Growing up in Madagascar, I developed an early sensitivity to craftsmanship and style, shaped by the island’s natural beauty and rich artisanal traditions. Later, after living in Paris for ten years and working for leading French luxury couture houses, I felt a strong desire to reconnect with my roots and create something meaningful.

The Meaning of Nirinao

In Malagasy, Nirinao can be understood as “what you wish for” — a reflection of intention, desire, and something deeply chosen.

This name embodies a personal vision: to create beautiful, handcrafted pieces shaped by exceptional craftsmanship — resulting in truly unique creations.

The Heritage of Raffia

Madagascar is an island rich in culture, nature, and ancestral craftsmanship. Among its most emblematic materials is raffia, a natural fiber harvested from palm trees that grow abundantly across the island.

Flexible yet resistant, lightweight yet durable, raffia has been used for centuries to create objects that accompany everyday life — from hats and bags to baskets and decorative pieces.

Working with raffia requires time, precision, and patience. Each fiber is carefully prepared before being woven or crocheted by hand, through gestures that have been preserved and passed down within families for generations.

Craftsmanship 

Each piece is made entirely by hand in Madagascar, in collaboration with skilled artisans. Produced in limited quantities, every creation is unique.

The process is slow and meticulous, allowing each piece to develop its own character. Subtle variations in texture, weaving, and color are not imperfections, but the natural signature of true craftsmanship.

Choosing Nirinao means embracing pieces with a story — shaped by human hands, time, and tradition. It is also a conscious choice: one that supports local communities, preserves ancestral techniques, and contributes to sustaining artisanal knowledge for future generations.
