Raffia Care Guide

Raffia Care Guide

Each NIRINAO piece is carefully handcrafted in Madagascar using natural raffia. As a living natural fibre, raffia is unique and requires a little extra care to preserve its beauty over time.

With the right care, your piece will age gracefully and accompany you for many seasons.

Keep it dry

Raffia is a natural plant fibre that should be protected from prolonged contact with water. Avoid exposing your piece to heavy rain or excessive moisture. If it does become wet, gently blot away any excess water with a soft cloth and allow it to air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight.

Store it properly

When not in use, store your raffia piece in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Avoid placing heavy objects on top of your bag or hat to help maintain its original shape.

Clean gently

To remove dust or surface dirt, use a soft brush or wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth. Never soak your raffia piece, machine wash it, or use harsh cleaning products, as these may damage the natural fibres and affect the colour.

Handle with care

Each NIRINAO creation is handcrafted by skilled artisans using natural raffia. Slight variations in colour, texture and weave are part of the beauty of handmade craftsmanship and make every piece truly one of a kind. Over time, raffia will develop a beautiful natural patina that reflects its journey and use.

Coloured raffia

As with many naturally dyed fibres, dark or brightly coloured raffia may transfer colour when exposed to moisture or friction. We recommend avoiding contact with light-coloured clothing and delicate fabrics, particularly in humid conditions or when the raffia is damp. This is a natural characteristic of richly coloured fibres and does not affect the quality or durability of your piece.

Made to last

Every NIRINAO piece is woven by hand using traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations in Madagascar. With thoughtful care, your raffia piece is designed to be worn, loved and treasured season after season.

Thank you for helping us preserve the beauty of handmade craftsmanship.
